Information in this section can be used as a guide for professionals from Child Protection,
Victoria Police and the Health industry to better understand how the Victorian Forensic Paediatric Medical Service works;
how decisions are made; and how to contact the service.
In Melbourne, regular outpatient clinics are available at the Royal Children’s
Hospital and Monash Medical Centre.
Children who
require a non-urgent assessment may be offered an appointment
during working hours.

Children who require an urgent evaluation may be offered an after hours service by the multidisciplinary
team. Criteria determine whether an after hours service is required
(see flow
diagram).
At both hospitals, the VFPMS is
integrated with services provided in the Departments of Emergency
Medicine and the wards.
The Regional and Rural VFPMS is currently under development, however, if you have been requested to provide an assessment or consultation (referral) on behalf of VFPMS, please ensure that you complete a Rural & Regional Claim Form, provide a valid Tax Invoice and submit a copy of the medical report to:
