Welcome
The Victorian Forensic Paediatric Medical Service is a statewide
coordinated medical service providing assessments and care for abused,
assaulted and neglected children and young people.
It is a service provided by a network of doctors and other health
professionals, operating throughout Victoria, governed by a consortium
of service providers and funding agencies. The service providers are
the Monash Medical Centre, the Victorian Institute of Forensic Medicine
and the Royal Children’s Hospital. The service is funded by
Victoria Police and the Department of Human Services.
The VFPMS values collaboration and integration. Services are provided
by the best person, at the best time, in the best way, using the most
efficient and effective aspects of the Health system.
Our policies are evidence-informed and regularly reviewed.
Multidisciplinary teams are valued and we seek to provide services
in a manner that is integrated with services provided by Victoria
Police and Child Protection.
The VFPMS welcomes enquiries regarding possible child abuse and neglect.
We provide 24 hour access to expert medical opinion. Early consultation
is encouraged because this may minimize complications and reduce angst.
